Fred Dyson was born in Vancouver, B.C. in 1939, the same year that Germany invaded Poland, and the first electronic computer was successfully tested.

In his nineteenth year, Fred successfully applied to the University of Washington and studied mechanical engineering for 5 years. He pursued further studies in Economics at UC Berkeley and Arctic Engineering at the University of Alaska Anchorage.
